Overland Odyssey Trail Verdict
Best For
• Couples or small crews wanting a compact hybrid hard-shell that balances low profile with real interior space
• Daily drivers where aerodynamics and slim packed height matter
• Overlanders who want ARB durability with quick gas-strut deployment and modern materials
Skip If
• You want a massive family-size sleeping platform — this leans compact compared to big softshells
• Ultra-light wedge tents are your priority
• Tall pop-up clamshell headroom matters more than a sleek hybrid design
What We Like
• Slim hard-shell profile keeps wind resistance lower than most fold-out tents
• Gas-strut assisted opening and internal ladder make setup fast and simple
• Poly-cotton canvas with aluminum frame balances durability with comfort
• Compact footprint works well on smaller SUVs while still fitting 2–3 sleepers
Tradeoffs
• 2" egg-crate mattress is more functional than luxury-level
• Hybrid layout still takes slightly longer than true wedge clamshell RTTs
• Interior width sits narrower than larger family-focused tents
