Overland Odyssey Trail Verdict
Best For
• Weekend adventurers or couples wanting a compact, lightweight RTT that still feels rugged
• Smaller SUVs, crossovers, or builds where keeping packed height under ~8–12" matters
• Travelers who want a softshell with hard-shell-like aerodynamics and low drag
Skip If
• You want a massive family-size interior — this is designed for two people
• Hard-shell clamshell speed is your priority
• Thick luxury mattresses or blackout expedition builds are a must
What We Like
• Ultra-low packed height (as low as ~8") keeps wind resistance and garage clearance manageable
• About 120–123 lb dry weight makes it easier to run on lighter rack systems
• 300gsm poly-cotton canvas with skylight, LED light, and USB power adds practical usability
• Internal pole design fans out quickly for relatively fast setup compared to older expedition tents
Tradeoffs
• 2" foam mattress is functional but not premium-level comfort
• Narrower sleeping width (~51–55") compared to modern wide RTTs
• Still a fold-out softshell — setup and pack-down take a bit longer than clamshell hard-shells

Perfect Night Views
The large skylight provides a perfect view of the evening sky.
Packs Up Small
The fold up design allows for more unused space on the vehicle roof for storage of other overlanding gear.
Fantastic tent amd great pruce. Perfect size. All features are well thought. The only small comaint is the mattress could be better. I recommend and would buy again.
Installed on a Jeep Gladiator mid-height bed rack. I will rotate the tent 90 degrees to put the ladder out the back before my next outing. Good ventilation, thick material, nice to have an integrated cover. Far more comfort than sleeping in a tent on the ground. A basic tent at a fair price. Drilled additional holes in the aluminum ladder because it’s not on my roof and the ladder was thus too tall. Easy mod.Read less
Great tent !
After 6 months, 10+ nights and over 1500 miles of trips of the tent being on my overland trailer, I would give this an objective 4 of 5. The biggest reason I won't give it 5 is it does take a little big of a learning curve to get used to setting it up and storing it properly, and I found a few quality flaws along the way. The grey rubberize jacket zipper came unstitched on the front side, ARB's stellar customer support took care of that for me, by sending a new outer jacket which was easy to install. That situation made me realize you need to be more cautious as to not forcing it to zip, back the zipper up, check that the velcro strap that singes the fold down is tight, and make sure everything is tucked inside properly and try again, usually works better second time. The rubber jacket also started to separate at one corner, where it is glued together, so I super glued it back together using a binder clip to hold it together until it bonded well, that fix has held so far. Outside these two set backs, once I learned how to properly set it up and pack it, it became very easy and reliable to use. I've had it rain on it while I slept, and I didn't get wet. I've taken it down dusty roads, and didn't have any dust on the inside of the tent the next night. My wife surprisingly is very comfortable in the tent with just a supplemental 10°F two man sleeping bag on top of the factory ARB mattress, both together can fit inside the tent packed away. Overall I love the tent especially at the on sale price of $995. I would buy it again and recommend it, just tell people learn how to pack it and it shouldn't disappoint. If you don't learn how to pack it, it may break and disappoint, if you think it is lazy and dumby proof. From this dumby, it isn't. Past this it is a great tent.
