Overland Odyssey Trail Verdict
Best For
• Solo travelers or couples running smaller SUVs, crossovers, or lightweight rack setups
• Minimalist builds where low profile and weight matter more than luxury features
• Campers who want a simple fold-out tent that stays sleek on the highway
The Front Runner tent is one of the lightest RTTs around (~93–103 lb), with a slim ~13" closed height designed to reduce wind resistance and keep vehicle height lower.
Skip If
• You want a wide queen-size sleeping footprint — the ~47–51" interior width stays compact
• Four-season blackout or expedition-grade insulation is a must
• Large families or extended basecamp setups are your goal
What We Like
• Extremely light compared to most rooftop tents, making installs easier and roof loads safer
• Ultra-low profile helps with aerodynamics and garage clearance
• One-motion setup keeps it beginner-friendly and practical for frequent travel
• Durable poly-cotton ripstop body with waterproof rainfly gives solid everyday weather protection
Tradeoffs
• Lightweight focus means fewer premium features and less interior volume than heavier tents
• Narrower mattress (~47–48") feels tighter than many modern 2-person RTTs
• Reviews note weight savings can come at the cost of durability compared to expedition-grade builds

Super Lightweight
Thanks to it's lightweight design, the FrontRunner Roof Top Tent can be fitted to almost any vehicle with a roof rack.
Folds Up Small
Once closed with cover on, the FrontRunner Roof Top Tent is small enough to allow extra space for un-used rooftop storage.
Absolutely love how quick the Front Runner Roof Top Tent is to set up and pack away. It’s light, low-profile, and fits perfectly on my vehicle. The mattress is comfy enough for a good night’s sleep, and the ventilation is great. Only downside is the ladder could be a bit more solid, but overall it’s a solid buy for weekend adventures.
I really enjoyed my first experience with the roof tent, 20 days out wandering out there, with quality sleep ensured every night and no hassle of any kind.
Massive upgrade in convenience and quick setup coming from a ground tent, without breaking the bank. The 25year discount promotion helped 😂😂
Quick release mounts are highly recommended
I had already borrowed a friend's tent and tested it on 3 camping trips, so I knew that I would be extremely satisfied and excited to get my own one. The small final assembly tasks were easily completed and my next trip will be to the Jimny gathering next month. Big thumbs up to the easy ordering and excellent delivery.
Fitted it myself following clear instructions. Very impressed with packaging and product. Happy with my purchase . Thank you
