The Ikamper has been a major disappointment for my family. We spent around $6,000 on what we hoped would be a game-changing camping experience, but it’s been mostly a bust. We are a family of four with two young boys, ages 6 and 9, and while the tent claims to comfortably sleep four, that’s just not true—it's pretty cramped. My wife and I are both under 5'5", and even we felt squeezed, let alone our kids.

The biggest issue by far is how difficult it is to close the tent. I’ve watched all the instructional videos, read their site thoroughly, and followed every tip, but it’s still a nightmare to get it shut. It’s neither quick nor convenient, which defeats the purpose of easy camping. You have to take everything out of the tent before closing it, which is a huge hassle—lots of unnecessary up and down, easy to forget something, and just a major inconvenience overall. And even with nothing inside, it’s still super hard to close. It feels like the tent just doesn’t align properly, making the whole process even more frustrating.

The real problem is that since the tent is attached to the roof, every time you want to leave the campsite—whether to go hiking, pick up more supplies, or run errands—you have to go through the whole process of folding it up and closing it.

Lastly, the roof window is tiny—barely enough room to see the stars. What’s the point of camping if you can’t enjoy that view? Overall, I really wanted this to work, but it simply doesn’t live up to expectations. For the price we paid, I expected more convenience and less hassle. Sadly, it’s only added stress to our family camping trips.

This tent has been amazing for us. We perfectly fit two adults one 45lb dog and next season hopefully another 40ish pound puppy. This season we had 1 big wind storm with 30mph gusts and nothing was phased at all once we close everything up even without the rain fly. Also experience a very rainy night but never had a leak with the rain fly open. The built in lights are a huge help and wish we could buy more for the iKamper awning.

The biggest downside is trying to get it closed up. It takes 5-6 tries every single time rearranging just hoping it will get just exactly right to work. We completely deflate the mattresses using the pump, stack the small mattress on top of the big one on the large portion side of the tent, fold it up and sometimes it closes and other times have to open it back up and try again. In the rain this is not much fun at all.

I need this in my life more than I knew

I've been wanting a RTT for 3 years now, and I didn't want to buy a cheaper tent to just have one. So last month labor day sale I made the purchase. I can honestly say, the nicest tent ever. The ikamper DLX construction,materials and all of the functions work perfectly. Easy to setup and take down. I will be enjoying camping even more now.
