Full Tent Review
105 mph with a prinsu rack on a Rav4-PROOF. This tent is amazing just wanted to say that first sentence randomly. the pad it comes with isn’t bad at all. in the winter i have used it once as my first time. it did build up a bit condensation since it was me and my girlfriend. besides that everything was great. we had our -30 sleeping bag with another blanket on top. it did just fine. not sure if it was made for cold weather camping but it did the job. recently went summer camping. not bad. it kept the bugs out. it ran once and the rain fly did its job. did couple stuff in the tent and the tent held up just great. i definitely recommend if you’re looking for a beginner tent on your rig. i’m now saving up for the XD ones or something compact.
This is my first RTT, and I was a little reluctant because it was so inexpensive. This is a great example of cheap not being cheap quality. Our maiden voyage was in Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, and I can’t tell ya how pleased I am. Solid quality and very comfortable (got a big thumbs up from my wife). The instructions aren’t very good (rear mount vs side mount), but putting it together was fun. May need to swap out some of the hardware depending on your load bar set up. I reduced the size of the bolts so I could tighten them up quicker. It takes two to get it on and off the roof, but when you’re camping set-up and take down is a breeze. Wind noise is minimal, and it didn’t really impact the maneuverability at higher speeds (70-75 mph). I made the right choice. Happy camping!
I love my tent, easy to put together and install by yourself, but... for a thousand dollars you would think "Makers" would clean all the metal shavings from their drilling the factory holes for the accessories before packing it to send to buyers. And the mounting bolts were too short for my rack, maybe use about an inch longer bolt, buyer could cut them down and not have to go buy bolt to fit. I watched a video how to install before I bought it. Good thing, because there was no paperwork.
Shipping was fast, no damage from shipping, and install was quick and easy with 2 people. Quality is awesome for the price. Compared to my friends CVT tent, this is a little thinner, overall lighter, and the mattress isn’t quite as nice. But for the price it can’t be beat! Highly recommend!!
So last year, I spent 7+ weeks living out of my SUV with my rooftop tent. It was AMAZING! I traveled from Washington, all through Utah National Parks, to the Grand Canyon, and back home via Yosemite. I'm 5'5" on a good day and with a 2-step stool, had no problem putting the tent up or down by myself (though I did upgrade to a 3-step for this summer). I was in torrential rain and some bad windstorms and it held strong! I got up one morning to see everyone else's tents torn, toppled, etc. and mine was great sitting on my car. Once we hit hotter weather, I left the rain fly off and we enjoyed the night sky as well as the extra ventilation that afforded. I'm heading out for a 3+ month trip in just a few weeks. For a single woman, this is the best way to travel - easy to set up and down, easy to drive with, and not too small or too big. Along with the pop-up privacy tent that Overland has, I personally think I have one of the best setups in the park usually. I can't tell you how many people stop to check mine out and it really has come to feel like a second home - maybe even better than being at home because there are less chores to worry about! :)
