Overland Odyssey Trail Verdict
Best For
• Budget-focused campers wanting a legit 3-person softshell without jumping into premium pricing
• SUVs, crossovers, and trucks needing a lighter traditional fold-out (~108 lb range)
• Overlanders who want simple setup and solid all-season canvas construction
Skip If
• You want fast clamshell deployment — this is a traditional ladder-supported fold-out
• Ultra-premium builds where weight savings, insulation, or luxury mattress upgrades matter
• Heavy daily movers — packing softshell covers every trip can get old
What We Like
• Lightweight for a 3-person tent while still using 600D ripstop poly-cotton canvas and aluminum base construction
• True budget entry point that still includes a high-density foam mattress and waterproof rainfly
• Simple install on most racks with included ladder and hardware
• Sleeping space is surprisingly roomy for couples or a small family
Tradeoffs
• Traditional fold-out setup takes longer than modern hard-shell or hybrid tents
• 2.25–2.5" mattress is decent but not luxury-level comfort
• Bulkier packed size compared to wedge or clamshell RTTs

Good Price, Still Loaded
Just because the OVS LD TMBK 3 is cheaper than a lot of other tents doesn't mean it is short on features.
Heavy Duty Rain-Fly
The heavy duty rain-fly of the OVS LD TMBK 3 will help keep you dry in even the roughest of weather.
105 mph with a prinsu rack on a Rav4-PROOF. This tent is amazing just wanted to say that first sentence randomly. the pad it comes with isn’t bad at all. in the winter i have used it once as my first time. it did build up a bit condensation since it was me and my girlfriend. besides that everything was great. we had our -30 sleeping bag with another blanket on top. it did just fine. not sure if it was made for cold weather camping but it did the job. recently went summer camping. not bad. it kept the bugs out. it ran once and the rain fly did its job. did couple stuff in the tent and the tent held up just great. i definitely recommend if you’re looking for a beginner tent on your rig. i’m now saving up for the XD ones or something compact.
This is my first RTT, and I was a little reluctant because it was so inexpensive. This is a great example of cheap not being cheap quality. Our maiden voyage was in Shawnee National Forest in southern Illinois, and I can’t tell ya how pleased I am. Solid quality and very comfortable (got a big thumbs up from my wife). The instructions aren’t very good (rear mount vs side mount), but putting it together was fun. May need to swap out some of the hardware depending on your load bar set up. I reduced the size of the bolts so I could tighten them up quicker. It takes two to get it on and off the roof, but when you’re camping set-up and take down is a breeze. Wind noise is minimal, and it didn’t really impact the maneuverability at higher speeds (70-75 mph). I made the right choice. Happy camping!
This is a great product. It was fast and easy shipping. There were no instructions for installation, but it was pretty easy to figure out. I just wish this company was consistent on all their products and shipping.
nice tent works great, no instructions were sent so i contacted manufacturer and they sent them over the same day. instructions were not detailed and had to figure out some things on my own
We put it on roof of our 2006 Nissan Xterra and camped once last week (Oct 16-17, 2021) at KOA SF/Peteluma site. it was 46 F in the night and little drizzle and feels good. One thing they can improve is the dents/holes on the externior edge of the bed platform to support rainfly poles. There might be certain ways to strengthen the pole support rather than using small dents/holes. Less
